The Biometric Records Section (BRS) manages the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), a statewide computer system that searches and stores rolled fingerprints (tenprints) and partial fingerprints (latents) from crime scenes. There are currently 23 remote AFIS sites located in Virginia with 24 AFIS terminals working in conjunction with the LiveScan program.
Livescan information and documents are also managed by BRS. This program checks and updates Virginia’s Criminal History (CCH) and Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) in an automated manner. Identification information is returned electronically to the Livescan agency that requested it.
