State Police Report

The term “State Police Report” on the Virginia State Police site may refer to several different reports: crash reports and criminal history reports. More information can be found below.

Crash Reports

If you have been involved in an vehicle accident / reportable crash, you should request that information from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV maintains the official record of all reportable crashes occurring within the Commonwealth. Those requests can be made on the DMV site.

If you failed to report the accident, you may voluntarily report the crash using the DMV FR 200 form.

Note: FOIA requests for Accident/Crash Reports must also be submitted to the DMV site.

Criminal history

There are two methods of obtaining a Virginia criminal history record check. This will entail Virginia conviction data only. More information and method to request criminal history reports can be found with Civil and Applicant Records Exchange (CARE).

National fingerprint-based background checks for those providing care to children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities can also be found with Civil and Applicant Records Exchange (CARE).
