The Virginia State Police is currently offering a $5,000 signing bonus for those applicants who are successfully rehired and pass their probationary period. The $5,000 recruitment bonus will be paid out after the successful completion of the probationary period and is subject to taxes.

Equipment Repair Tech Auto

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Tech Auto in our Communications Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. Personnel Analyst

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Personnel Analyst in our Human Resources Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a wage Office Services at the Division 3, Area 22 Office in South Hill, Virginia. The successful candidate will assist the Secretary Senior, providing secretarial support to the administrative workflow process, and to provide additional support to the Area First Sergeant, Sergeant(s), and Troopers; and assist in overall operational effectiveness of the Area through written and verbal communications, both internally and externally. Dispatcher or Dispatcher Trainee – Salem

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Trainee in our Division 6 Headquarters in Salem, Virginia. The successful candidate will learn how to properly receive and dispatch routine and emergency calls for service in order to aid law enforcement personnel, emergency personnel, the general public and the media, within the Division VI geographic area, by sending and receiving information, emergency assistance, or service equipment as required in assisting law enforcement personnel or the general public; and learn how to operate a multi-channel radio system, answer a multi-line computerized telephone system, enter and retrieve information through Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Terminal, and properly operate computerized information network terminals. Candidates with prior dispatching training and experience may be hired as a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II), and the hourly rate will be $20.75.

Candidates with limited experience are hired as a Dispatcher Trainee (Emergency Coordinator I – pay-band 3, hourly rate will be $18.87). After satisfactory completion of a four-to-six-month training regimen, employees progress to a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II – pay-band 4) and will receive a 10% hourly rate increase.

Experienced candidates who are not placed in a trainee status are not eligible for the 10% salary increase.

Storekeeper Senior – Fairfax

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Storekeeper Senior at the Division 7 Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. Program Support Technician

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will research multiple databases to obtain information for registration verification, offender status, incarceration location, and in-state offender classification; update registrations for address/employment changes into the sex offender registry according to procedures; enter and/or verify information from Sex Offender Registration forms against the Sex Offender Registry (SOR) data base; review, enter, and upload into Perceptive Content registration updates into the SOR database pursuant to policy and procedure; open, sort, date stamp, prioritize and upload into Perceptive Content incoming and outgoing mail; and validate, manipulate, enter, and upload digital images. Program Support Technician Senior

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will research and apply missing dispositions on criminal history records in response to civil restorations of rights, firearm restoration of rights, simple and absolute pardons on the Virginia Criminal History record; scan barcoded applicant fingerprint cards and accurately enter descriptive data into the Computerized Applicant Tracking System (CATS); scan fingerprint cards and enter descriptive data to establish and/or update the Master Name / BRS and Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system files using the NIST Card Scanning System; research and process criminal record requests from criminal justice agencies, requesting background checks and criminal history information; and archive supporting documentation into Integra archive database. Dispatcher or Dispatcher Trainee – Culpeper

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Dispatcher/Dispatcher Trainee at the Division 2 Headquarters in Culpeper, Virginia. The successful candidate will learn to how to properly receive and dispatch routine and emergency calls for service to aid law enforcement personnel, emergency personnel, the public and the media, within the Division 2 geographic area, by sending and receiving information, emergency assistance, or service equipment as required in assisting law enforcement personnel or the public. Experienced applicants (non-Trainees) currently not employed by the state who are hired into the Dispatcher position are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement. Dispatcher Trainees and transferring state employees are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with the signature of a 12-month agreement at 10 months.

Classified Applicants hired into this position who are already working in a Dispatcher function are not eligible for either a sign-on bonus upon hire or a retention bonus after 10 months.

Candidates with prior dispatching training and experience may be hired as a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II), and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

Candidates with limited experience are hired as a Dispatcher Trainee (Emergency Coordinator I – pay-band 3, $39,247). After satisfactory completion of the Dispatcher Trainee Training Curriculum, employees will progress to a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II – pay-band 4) and will receive a 10% salary increase.

Experienced candidates who are not placed in a trainee status are not eligible for the 10% salary increase.

We are currently offering a $5,000 hiring bonus, with an additional $5,000 offered to eligible candidates who accept an assignment within Division 1 in Central Virginia, Division 5 in Tidewater, Division 7 in Northern Virginia, or who are willing to accept assignment anywhere in Virginia.

Pathway to Trooper

Calling all 17 1/2 to 19-year-olds who want to become a Virginia State Trooper! The Virginia State Police is hiring future State Troopers through our expanded Pathway to Trooper Program. This program is reserved for individuals who want to become a Virginia State Trooper but are not old enough (applicants must be at least 21 years of age by their Trooper Basic Academy Session graduation date). If this appeals to you, this program is the opportunity of a lifetime! The Virginia State Police will hire qualified candidates, provide best-in-class training and experiences, and prepare you to become a Virginia State Trooper.

Earn while you learn! The Virginia State Police has partnered with Southside Virginia Community College to provide you an associate degree in Administration of Justice to be awarded upon graduation from a future Trooper Basic Academy Session. AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS FOR CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT

The Department conducts a comprehensive background investigation and reviews an applicant’s suitability for employment on a case-by-case basis, considering the totality of the information discovered.

  1. Any felony conviction (at any age).
  2. Any illegal use of any controlled substance (illegal drug) listed in Schedule I or Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years or the illegal use of any controlled substance listed in Schedule I or Schedule II more than twice in the past 10 years. The use of any hallucinogenic substance such as LSD, PCP, or Psilocybin at any time in the past 10 years.
  3. Illegal sale of any drug or narcotic at any time in your life.
  4. A conviction of driving under the influence in the past five years, or more than one conviction of driving under the influence in the applicant’s lifetime, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  5. Active revocation or suspension of driving privileges in any state, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  6. Any conviction that required registration on any Sex Offender Registry.
  7. Falsification of application with intent to conceal or mislead.
  8. Documented untruthfulness during applicant process.

Dress Code, Tattoo, and Body Modification Policy

All Civilian Employees must abide by the following policies:

Hair
Hair should always be kept clean and neat. Hair shall be of a natural shade and have no unnatural tones or colors. Spray-on substances producing an unnatural color or glitter are prohibited. Attention should also be paid to all aspects of personal grooming.

Tattoos
Tattoos on the head, face, nose, eyebrows, neck, or tongue shall be covered at all times while on duty, including during training, by utilizing commercially available cosmetics or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If commercial products are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in an official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Employees who routinely interact directly with the public as part of their normal job duties shall cover tattoos on all other parts of the body while on duty by utilizing clothing, cosmetics, or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If cosmetics or fabric covers are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in any official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Body Modifications
Body modifications visible while on duty are prohibited. Body modifications include, but are not limited to:

  1. tongue splitting or bifurcation;
  2. complete or trans-dermal implantation of any objects other than hair replacement;
  3. abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, or nose;
  4. gauging or gradually increasing the radius of a surgically induced opening in the flesh in areas such as the ear lobes or lips;
  5. abnormal filing of the teeth; and
  6. branding or scarification.

Body modifications shall not include those procedures medically necessitated by illness, deformity or injury, when performed by a licensed medical professional.

Jewelry

  1. Jewelry, if worn by civilian employees, must present a professional appearance.
  2. Employees who routinely interact with the public as a part of their normal job duties may wear no more than two earrings in each earlobe and are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles, jewelry, or ornamentation to or through the nose, tongue, or any exposed body part (including when visible through clothing) while on duty.

Marijuana Policy

All Department employees are prohibited from possessing, buying, selling, using, or growing marijuana unless it is part of the employee’s official law enforcement duties.
