Employment Analyst

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Employment Analyst in our Human Resources Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will assist with the coordination of the sworn applicant hiring process by coordinating job announcements in PageUp; processing applications; helping with all phases of the pre-employment process; preparing personnel files; processing hiring letters and orientation paperwork; prepare statistical reports; identify ways to improve business processes; to maintain the Apprenticeship Program and the Pathway to Trooper Program; to respond to inquiries; and work with the sworn Recruitment Unit by attending career fairs to promote the position of Trooper and vacant civilian positions. Personnel Analyst

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Personnel Analyst in our Human Resources Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will process and enter routine to complex personnel transactions in human resources databases for human resource, position, employee personal, and job data; enter data for additional pay and rewards and recognition; run reports and queries; ensure compliance with policies, procedures, applicable State and federal laws and regulations; maintain records and compile data for reporting purposes in statistical reports; analyze complex information to define and solve problems exercising proper judgement; conduct audits and reviews to monitor, report and resolve any potential compliance issues; perform the reconciliation of the Virginia Retirement System Navigator Snapshot; evaluate processes and procedures and recommend workflow improvements; maintain the highest level of confidentiality; and must manage multiple priorities and participate in training new team members. VITA Coordinator

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Virginia Information Technology (VITA) Coordinator in our Information Technology Division (ITD) at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will manage VITA Multi Source Services for VSP’s ITD; coordinate with VITA, ITD, and Information Security Office (ISO) to ensure security policies are enforced; complete documentation consistent with VSP and VITA policies; coordinate upcoming VITA transformation projects; report status of projects to management monthly; work with external vendors contracted through VITA; resolve billing disputes and tracks and manages VITA work requests; track contractor purchase orders; ensure Enterprise Cloud Oversight Services (ECOS) requests are processed in a timely manner; and maintain up-to-date knowledge on VITA standards and guidelines. Pathway to Trooper

Calling all 17 1/2 to 19-year-olds who want to become a Virginia State Trooper! The Virginia State Police is hiring future State Troopers through our expanded Pathway to Trooper Program. This program is reserved for individuals who want to become a Virginia State Trooper but are not old enough (applicants must be at least 21 years of age by their Trooper Basic Academy Session graduation date). If this appeals to you, this program is the opportunity of a lifetime! The Virginia State Police will hire qualified candidates, provide best-in-class training and experiences, and prepare you to become a Virginia State Trooper.

Earn while you learn! The Virginia State Police has partnered with Southside Virginia Community College to provide you an associate degree in Administration of Justice to be awarded upon graduation from a future Trooper Basic Academy Session. AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS FOR CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT

The Department conducts a comprehensive background investigation and reviews an applicant’s suitability for employment on a case-by-case basis, considering the totality of the information discovered.

  1. Any felony conviction (at any age).
  2. Any illegal use of any controlled substance (illegal drug) listed in Schedule I or Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years or the illegal use of any controlled substance listed in Schedule I or Schedule II more than twice in the past 10 years. The use of any hallucinogenic substance such as LSD, PCP, or Psilocybin at any time in the past 10 years.
  3. Illegal sale of any drug or narcotic at any time in your life.
  4. A conviction of driving under the influence in the past five years, or more than one conviction of driving under the influence in the applicant’s lifetime, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  5. Active revocation or suspension of driving privileges in any state, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  6. Any conviction that required registration on any Sex Offender Registry.
  7. Falsification of application with intent to conceal or mislead.
  8. Documented untruthfulness during applicant process.

Dress Code, Tattoo, and Body Modification Policy

All Civilian Employees must abide by the following policies:

Hair
Hair should always be kept clean and neat. Hair shall be of a natural shade and have no unnatural tones or colors. Spray-on substances producing an unnatural color or glitter are prohibited. Attention should also be paid to all aspects of personal grooming.

Tattoos
Tattoos on the head, face, nose, eyebrows, neck, or tongue shall be covered at all times while on duty, including during training, by utilizing commercially available cosmetics or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If commercial products are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in an official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Employees who routinely interact directly with the public as part of their normal job duties shall cover tattoos on all other parts of the body while on duty by utilizing clothing, cosmetics, or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If cosmetics or fabric covers are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in any official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Body Modifications
Body modifications visible while on duty are prohibited. Body modifications include, but are not limited to:

  1. tongue splitting or bifurcation;
  2. complete or trans-dermal implantation of any objects other than hair replacement;
  3. abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, or nose;
  4. gauging or gradually increasing the radius of a surgically induced opening in the flesh in areas such as the ear lobes or lips;
  5. abnormal filing of the teeth; and
  6. branding or scarification.

Body modifications shall not include those procedures medically necessitated by illness, deformity or injury, when performed by a licensed medical professional.

Jewelry

  1. Jewelry, if worn by civilian employees, must present a professional appearance.
  2. Employees who routinely interact with the public as a part of their normal job duties may wear no more than two earrings in each earlobe and are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles, jewelry, or ornamentation to or through the nose, tongue, or any exposed body part (including when visible through clothing) while on duty.

Marijuana Policy

All Department employees are prohibited from possessing, buying, selling, using, or growing marijuana unless it is part of the employee’s official law enforcement duties.
