Dispatcher

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Dispatcher at the Division III Headquarters in Appomattox, Virginia. The successful candidate will be aiding law enforcement personnel, emergency personnel, the public and the media. The work is performed within a specific geographical area by sending and receiving information and emergency assistance or service equipment in assisting law enforcement personnel and/or the public. May work rotating shifts and is considered essential personnel. Office Services Assistant

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Office Services Specialist in our Safety Division at their Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. The successful candidate will provide customer service to over 4,500 inspection stations statewide, Virginia law enforcement officials, and the general public; review submitted orders for inspection supplies; determine if quantity of supplies ordered is appropriate based on station’s inspection history and use; conduct in-depth audits of station sticker inventory and inspection records to identify any missing or unaccounted serial numbers using Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Program procedures and station inventory file data; assist with ordering and processing shipping supplies; and assist with filing, sorting, packaging, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed. Secretary Senior

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior at the Division IV, Area 30 Office in Wise, Virginia. The candidate selected for this position will oversee and coordinate office operations to ensure efficient daily functions and workflow. Acting as both office manager and administrative assistant to the Area First Sergeant, it provides comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Area First Sergeant, Sergeants, Troopers, and Volunteers. Independently schedules sworn employees for Safety in Work Zone projects, Portable Scales, and training assignments. Oversees part time employees, volunteers, housekeepers, and grounds workers by coordinating their schedules and directing tasks. Serving as an alternate evidence custodian, the position may testify in court when necessary and handle legal document assignments. Program Support Technician

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will maintain document compliance of current sex offenders with the laws that govern the registry. Conducts data review, research, and analysis using various databases in accordance with §9.1-900 through §9.1-918 of the Code of Virginia. Program Support Technician Senior

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will review Virginia and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)/III criminal records for discrepancies; provide updates to State and federal entities as appropriate; analyze and resolve Central Criminal History (CCH) disposition errors daily in the automated disposition work queue by identifying the error type, researching the information with the appropriate court and electronically applying the corrected disposition information to the criminal history record for compliance with § 19.2-387 of the Code of Virginia; perform computer format procedures to modify and update criminal records; research and analyze court disposition records which contain erroneous and incomplete information; contact court clerks to validate questionable data and submissions into VSP Mental Health database; and analyze Notification of Restoration of Capacity for restoration of firearms rights in compliance with §18.2-308.1:1 or §18.2-308.1:3 of the Code of Virginia. Equipment and Applications Specialist Senior

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment and Applications Specialist Senior in our Communications Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will install database access software, scanner units and resolves subscriber hardware and software compatibility issues; manage catalog entries, manufacturers, models, and site locations; provide technical support and training on Sunflower to Communication Division Field Technicians and State Police Headquarters (SPHQ) technical staff; correct errors, and conflicting data through research of the data input; maintain the user and equipment location database and verify a custodian for every asset; maintain the list of each unique item of equipment, configuration for each and enters this information into the database; travel with field techs to Communications Division sites to conduct audits; and refine the Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) subscriber equipment installation process. Equipment and Applications Specialist Sr.

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire an Equipment and Applications Specialist Senior at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The candidate selected for this position will provide senior-level support for the agency’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS), Management Information System (MIS), Mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) system, and other enterprise systems requiring 24/7 availability. Manage backup strategies and supporting mission-critical systems, oversee internal and third-party software and hardware maintenance on both virtual and physical servers, and ensure stability and performance of systems across multiple platforms. Pathway to Trooper

Calling all 17 1/2 to 19-year-olds who want to become a Virginia State Trooper! The Virginia State Police is hiring future State Troopers through our expanded Pathway to Trooper Program. This program is reserved for individuals who want to become a Virginia State Trooper but are not old enough (applicants must be at least 21 years of age by their Trooper Basic Academy Session graduation date). AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS FOR CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT

The Department conducts a comprehensive background investigation and reviews an applicant’s suitability for employment on a case-by-case basis, considering the totality of the information discovered.

  1. Any felony conviction (at any age).
  2. Any illegal use of any controlled substance (illegal drug) listed in Schedule I or Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years or the illegal use of any controlled substance listed in Schedule I or Schedule II more than twice in the past 10 years. The use of any hallucinogenic substance such as LSD, PCP, or Psilocybin at any time in the past 10 years.
  3. Illegal sale of any drug or narcotic at any time in your life.
  4. A conviction of driving under the influence in the past five years, or more than one conviction of driving under the influence in the applicant’s lifetime, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  5. Active revocation or suspension of driving privileges in any state, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  6. Any conviction that required registration on any Sex Offender Registry.
  7. Falsification of application with intent to conceal or mislead.
  8. Documented untruthfulness during applicant process.

Dress Code, Tattoo, and Body Modification Policy

All Civilian Employees must abide by the following policies:

Hair
Hair should always be kept clean and neat. Hair shall be of a natural shade and have no unnatural tones or colors. Spray-on substances producing an unnatural color or glitter are prohibited. Attention should also be paid to all aspects of personal grooming.

Tattoos
Tattoos on the head, face, nose, eyebrows, neck, or tongue shall be covered at all times while on duty, including during training, by utilizing commercially available cosmetics or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If commercial products are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in an official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Employees who routinely interact directly with the public as part of their normal job duties shall cover tattoos on all other parts of the body while on duty by utilizing clothing, cosmetics, or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If cosmetics or fabric covers are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in any official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Body Modifications
Body modifications visible while on duty are prohibited. Body modifications include, but are not limited to:

  1. tongue splitting or bifurcation;
  2. complete or trans-dermal implantation of any objects other than hair replacement;
  3. abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, or nose;
  4. gauging or gradually increasing the radius of a surgically induced opening in the flesh in areas such as the ear lobes or lips;
  5. abnormal filing of the teeth; and
  6. branding or scarification.

Body modifications shall not include those procedures medically necessitated by illness, deformity or injury, when performed by a licensed medical professional.

Jewelry

  1. Jewelry, if worn by civilian employees, must present a professional appearance.
  2. Employees who routinely interact with the public as a part of their normal job duties may wear no more than two earrings in each earlobe and are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles, jewelry, or ornamentation to or through the nose, tongue, or any exposed body part (including when visible through clothing) while on duty.

Marijuana Policy

All Department employees are prohibited from possessing, buying, selling, using, or growing marijuana unless it is part of the employee’s official law enforcement duties.
