Fingerprinting Services for Noncriminal Justice Entities
Noncriminal justice entities with existing accounts for criminal history record checks were informed of the option to create separate accounts with Fieldprint, the Commonwealth’s fingerprint collection and transmission vendor. This option is available for those without alternative fingerprinting resources.
Eligible entities include:
- State and local government agencies conducting background checks for employment, contracting, or licensing.
- EMTs and other first responders (excluding law enforcement).
- Private schools, volunteer organizations, non-profits, and entities providing care for children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
Fingerprinting Services with Fieldprint
Fieldprint, a state-approved electronic fingerprinting provider, partners with several state agencies and local government entities. To set up an account, visit Fieldprint Virginia, email customerservice@myfieldprint.com, or call (888) 472-8918.
Fingerprinting Services Not Provided by the Department
The Department does not process fingerprints for personal requests or those not mandated by the Code of Virginia. For these services, please contact the requesting agency for guidance. This includes:
- FBI background checks
- Criminal records checks for other states or federal agencies
- Concealed weapons permits
- Visa applications
- SP-167 requests (e.g., private employer requirements)
Fingerprinting Services at State Police Locations
The Department of State Police provides fingerprinting services at State Police Headquarters, Division Headquarters, and Area Offices for essential services and urgent cases. These include:
- ExpungementsRecord challenges
- Unique Personal Identification Number (UPIN) requests
- Pardons and civil rights restorations
- Foster care and adoptions
- Government appointments (Judges, Magistrates, etc.)
- Fingerprints needed to support essential services
